Tooth Filling

Tooth Filling Burntwood

A tooth filling is a basic restorative dental procedure to fix damages caused by decay or fracture. It is a common method of teeth preservation, and it helps improve the functionality of the teeth. About 75 – 80% of adults have tooth fillings. The procedure provides an aesthetic finish and helps improve oral health.

You can opt to get a tooth filling at Inspire Dental Centre in Burntwood to stop persistent toothache and halitosis. Tooth fillings are mostly used before teeth problems become severe, but when there is a need for treatment. They work by sealing off the damaged tooth and repairing it before further damage occurs.

What are tooth fillings?

Tooth fillings are tiny pieces of composite resin that are used to seal off the cavity on a tooth to prevent the enamel from further decay. You can get a dental filling within 30 – 90 minutes depending on the amount of cavity that needs to be filled.

Before your tooth is filled, our dentist would first scrape off a bit of the decayed tooth, exposing the area that needs to be filled before covering it up with composite resin tooth filling. You would need complete dental check-ups after the procedure to ensure that the treatment is effective.

Types of tooth filling

There are several types of tooth filling, but at Inspire Dental Centre, we use only composite resin dental filling for our patients. Other types of filling especially the previously used amalgam dental filling, are harmful to the health. It is carcinogenic and deposits mercury into the system.

Amalgam fillings are made from a combination of silver, mercury, tin, and other trace elements which have negative effects on the health. Amalgam fillings can cause brain damage and weaken the immune system making you more susceptible to infections. The use of amalgam fillings in cosmetic or restorative dentistry is now illegal.

We use fillings made of composite artificial resin which hardens and sticks to the teeth. This type of filling does not lose weight like the amalgam filling, and it doesn't release mercury into the system. However, composite resin fillings do not last as long as amalgam fillings. They have a life span of about 10 years if they are properly cared for.

Composite resin fillings are tooth coloured and can be blend with the shade of your teeth, unlike amalgam fillings. They prevent your teeth from getting decayed around the dental filling, which is a common problem with an amalgam filling.

You can also get the BPA-free filings at our clinic. This type of filling is eco-friendly and tooth-coloured.

Price of tooth fillings

The cost of getting dental fillings vary based on the amount of cavity that would be filled and the nature of work thatwill be done on the tooth before filling it. Small fillings are usually cheaper than large ones. The complexity of the procedure also affects the cost of getting a tooth filling. For example, filling the front teeth costs more than filling the molars.

The cost of tooth filling starts from £90, and you have to pay a consultation fee as well. If you have a cavity that needs to be filled, contact us, and we would book an appointment for you with one of our dentists who will check your tooth and assess how much work you would need on your tooth before giving you an exact price quote.
